swap in, swap out #1: that morning liquid

Welcome to a new series I’m calling “Swap In, Swap Out”!

The whole purpose of this series is to swap out something that isn’t contributing to your health (or your glow), and swap in something that is. Often times we don’t even realize there are swaps out there, or it might feel too overwhelming. These swaps here will be tiny little shifts you can make that ultimately put you on a completely different & awesome path… one swap at a time. The greatest part of it all, you might not even bat an eye making these changes, but your health will know!

So let’s dive into upgrading your health, home, and life because this swap begins right now!

I thought I would start with a really easy swap for a drink that majority of people enjoy: beloved coffee☕️.

Why you want to swap out non-organic/conventional for organic coffee:

Globally, we consume over 14 billion pounds of coffee annually. That's a lot! Coffee beans come from a plant, so it makes sense to support organic growth of these beans. With non-organic coffee, you have to worry about the pesticides being sprayed on the beans you will eventually drink, as well as the chemical processing of those beans, which is ever increasing with the demand of coffee. Plus, if you're concerned about the earth, think about what these processes are doing to the health of the soil. It's not good!

If you need some organic coffee inspo, here are some that we've enjoyed / want to try soon:

  • Artizan Coffee: this is the one we currently use. They have a ton of great options, just don’t ask me which one I like best!

  • Sweetwater Coffee: this is where I originally fell in love with organic coffee & I also love that it's a FL company!

  • Javatino: Local FL company & funny story... my hubby used to go and roast coffee with their main roaster!

  • Lifeboost Coffee: This is a newer coffee I found & love their coffee standards - low acid, 3rd party tested for mycotoxins, single origin, pesticide free.

  • Biodynamic Coffee: This is another fave. They use regenerative farming, and I love that your coffee comes in a compostable bag.

  • Canyon Coffee: I found this brand around the same time as Biodynamic but decided to try it first, so this is next on my list!

(These are just my pure recommendations, no affiliates :)

How to 'up' your organic coffee:

The glow life is truly about finding those little shifts/upgrades & although we already have one here today, I'm giving you a BONUS: add adaptogens to your coffee. An easy addition to however you prepare your coffee (reg coffee, latte, americano, etc) is to add a scoop of Four Sigmatic Adaptogenic Blend or something similar. I rarely ever drink my coffee as is when I make it anymore, I always add more goodness to it!

CHARCOAL LATTE

Here’s another way to ‘up’ your coffee experience! One of my fave lattes because it’s delicious & good for you!

If you're looking to cut back on coffee:

  • Dirty Rasa (this is what I drank as I was trying to cut back on coffee - it's a half organic coffee mix with half coffee alternative full of adaptogens to do the body good!)

What to do when drinking out?!

Sadly, it feels like the coffee industry has a lot of catching up to do on organic coffee and/or the options are still very limited. So what to do if you're out drinking a coffee / don't make it at home?

  • Simply ASK! Ask if they have any organic coffee options & if they don't, then make a recommendation.

  • Opt for a chai latte or matcha instead.

  • Get the non-organic coffee, BUT only if you get a coffee out the odd time (definitely don't do this if you purchase daily)!

And if you do buy your coffee from coffee shops everyday vs. making at home, maybe it's time to invest in a french press or a pour over

Or if you love espresso/lattes like we do, check out the espresso maker we have here! This will not only save you a ton of money, but then you will for sure know that you're drinking the coffee of your choosing—which I'm hoping is organic ;)

What about caffeine-free coffee?

This is great in theory, but if you do drink decaf coffee, then getting the organic type is more important than ever. To remove caffeine from the bean, it's typical removed via dangerous chemical, so make sure to find decaf coffee that is water-processed or uses the Swiss Water process (Javatino does!). Otherwise you're just drinking down chemicals, such as trichlorethylene (TCE) (read about dangers of it here) and methylene chloride (read about this carcinogen here).

What if you don't drink coffee at all?

If you don't drink coffee at all, that's awesome too! But if you like the idea of a magical drink in the morning (especially from a ritual standpoint), there are some great options out there that contribute to your health. Although I do love a good latte once in a while, I now live for my daily cup of Rasa!

And that concludes the very first ‘Swap IN, Swap OUT’ post. Hope you enjoyed it & comment below if you have suggestions for ones you want to see in the future!
